Dog Walking at Great Meadow
Dogs are welcome at Great Meadow! We do have restricted access areas that we ask you to abide by when you walk your dog at Great Meadow. You are welcome to walk your dog during our normal property hours of dawn to dusk, daily.

Great Meadow offers a safe and scenic environment for exercise and exploration. We have a designated scenic gravel road that is approximately 2.5 miles – full-circle. You are welcome to walk your dog(s) along this road, as marked in the map below.
There are dog waste stations located at various points along this trail where you can dispose of your dog’s waste. Extra dog waste bags are available at each waste disposal site for your convenience.
Dog Walking Rules
We observe Fauquier County and Commonwealth of Virginia leash laws. It is required by law that dog(s) be on a leash AT ALL TIMES. You are required to clean up after your pet while on our property. We have dog waste stations located on the property for disposal of waste and extra waste bags, if needed.
- The property is open for dog walking daily, from dawn to dusk.
- There are absolutely NO PEOPLE OR DOGS allowed on the racecourse. You will be removed from the property immediately
- Dogs are NOT permitted to be in any of our water retention ponds on the property. This water is not for swimming. It is runoff rainwater used to irrigate the property. We are not responsible for any health or side-effects that may arise if you allow your dog to swim in our irrigation ponds.
- Owners are legally responsible for their dogs and any injuries caused by them.
- Dogs must be on leash AT ALL TIMES per Fauquier County and Commonwealth of Virginia leash laws. You will be subject to removal from the property and fines if this rule is violated.
- No dogs under five months old are allowed on the property.
- Dogs must be fully vaccinated, licensed, and healthy.
- Dogs must always wear a collar and I.D. tags.
- Owners must clean up after their dogs. Waste stations are provided for your convenience. See map for details.
- Dogs showing aggression towards people or other animals will be removed from the property.
- Animals who exhibit a history of aggressive behavior are NOT permitted on the property.
- Owners should not leave their dog unattended or out of sight.
- Dogs in heat are not allowed on the property.
- No more than three (3) dogs per person on the property at one time.
- If you feel you or your dog is in danger, leave the park, report the situation to the Great Meadow Foundation office and local authorities.
- Dog walking is NOT permitted during major events at Great Meadow. Please check the event calendar HERE to see if dog walking is permitted during individual events.
IMPORTANT: Violators of any of the above rules will be subject to removal from the property and suspension of dog walking privileges and/or county fines.
